Perfectly segment your ActiveCampaign contacts by connecting ActiveCampaign and SamCart.
Connecting SamCart to your ActiveCampaign account will allow you to get even more out of your email marketing.
Below, you will find instructions on how to set up this connection, how to check on the status of the connection, and an outline of the features this connection will provide for you.
NOTE: If you're testing this connection in Test Mode, make sure you don't use the same email address as the admin email address for the ActiveCampaign account.
Integrate With ActiveCampaign
To start, make sure you are logged into your SamCart account After you are logged in, you will want to navigate to the Apps area of your marketplace by clicking the Apps tab in your left-hand marketplace navigation bar.
Once your are in the App Marketplace, search for ActiveCampaign and click the Install button.
Clicking the Install button will bring up a popup window where you can connect a new instance of ActiveCampaign. Here you will want to enter your API URL and API Key, these are credentials you will get from within ActiveCampaign! Check out this this article from ActiveCampaign for assistance locating your API credentials. Once you have the API URL and API Key, enter them in the popup window and click Connect.
After clicking Connect you will be taken to the Installed tab of the App Marketplace. You will now be able to see ActiveCampaign with your list of installed apps!
What Your ActiveCampaign App Can Do
Once you have successfully connected your ActiveCampaign account to SamCart, you can easily create your own custom rules that tell this connection what to do!
For any SamCart product, you can take the following actions in ActiveCampaign:
- Add Contact To List
- Add Tags To Contact
- Remove Contact From List
- Remove Tags From Contact
- Create E-Commerce Order
Anytime the following events happen inside of SamCart...
- The product is purchased
- A new Prospect is created
- A subscription is started
- A failed charge occurs
- The product is refunded
- And a whole lot more!
You can mix and match these actions/triggers to keep your contacts perfectly segmented, and automate more of your critical tasks! To start setting up rules click on ActiveCampaign from within the Installed list in your App Marketplace. This will take you to a page where you can start creating rules for this connection by clicking the + Add New Rule button.
Clicking + Add New Rule will bring up a window where you can start creating rules. The first step is to decide if you want to create a Global Rule or a Product Specific Rule. You will then need to Select an Action and a Trigger, and potentially a List or Tags where applicable. Read on to learn more!
- Selecting Global Rule (1) creates a rule that will apply to all products within your marketplace
- Selecting Product Specific Rule (2) will create a rule that applies only to the specific products you choose. The search bar to add products will only be present if you have selected this option. Any products you have selected to apply this rule to will appear directly below the search bar
- The Select an Action (3) dropdown menu will have a list of all the actions that the ActiveCampaign connection is able to perform. Select the action that you want to occur within ActiveCampaign when your customers purchase a product from SamCart.
- Depending on what Action you chose, the List (4) dropdown in the screenshot may instead say Tags. It may also disappear completely if it is not application to the Action that you chose. If this dropdown menu is present, this is where you will choose the List or Tag that you want the Action to interact with. If you do not see the List or Tag that you're looking for, click the Refresh Connection button in the top right corner
- The final decision in creating this rule is deciding what Trigger it will act on. Use the Select a Trigger (5) dropdown menu to see what Triggers are available for this connection to act on. The Trigger should be the event that happens in SamCart to make the Action within ActiveCampaign occur
- Click Add Rule (6) and you're done! You have now created a rule so that when your selected Trigger occurs within SamCart, the selected Action will occur within ActiveCampaign. You will see a small green message at the bottom of the screen letting you know that the rule has been successfully added:
You will now be able to easily see the new rule that you have created under the ActiveCampaign App screen! Here you can toggle between the Global and Product Specific tabs to see the Global and Product Specific rules you have set up for the ActiveCampaign connection. You can also delete a rule at any time by clicking the trash can icon on the rule.
NOTE: Each application has different Actions available. The following are available with the ActiveCampaign connection

Creating Rules Within Your SamCart Product
Working within a product and don't want to go all the way to the Apps page and click to ActiveCampaign to create rules? No problem! As long as ActiveCampaign is already connected to your SamCart account, you can also create rules for the connection from directly within your product. To do so, head over to the Apps tab on your product. This will take you to the Apps Rules page.
Click on the + Add New Rule button to get started with creating a rule! This will bring up a pop up window where you can select what App or App Instance you would like to create a rule for. Select ActiveCampaign and click Add Rule.
Once you have selected ActiveCampaign, the Add a Rule window will populate with more fields to fill out to complete the creation of the rule. From there, the process is exactly the same as is when you are creating rules from within your installed Apps in the App Marketplace! Refer to the "What Your ActiveCampaign App Can Do" section of this article above for more information about creating a rule.
Send Order Information to ActiveCampaign
ActiveCampaign has an e-commerce dashboard, and we have enhanced the connection to so that you are able to send order data automatically to ActiveCampaign after a sale is completed on any of your SamCart checkout pages.
We recommend setting up a global rule for this as it will send over information on all orders for all products inside your SamCart dashboard! Setup only takes a few minutes - you just have to create one global ActiveCampaign rule, and SamCart takes care of the rest!
- Once ActiveCampaign is connected, go to the Apps tab from your marketplace navigation bar to access the App Marketplace. Locate and open the ActiveCampaign app connection
- Press the blue + Add New Rule button and select Global Rule
- Select Create E-Commerce Order as the Action, and select Order Completed as the Trigger
- Click Add Rule
You're done! After clicking Add Rule, you will immediately be able to see the rule you have created under the Global Rules tab. It is really that simple!
SamCart will send the entire order to ActiveCampaign including all products from the main checkout page, order bump, and upsell funnel.
Here is the info you can expect to see inside ActiveCamapign after this rule fires:
- SamCart Order ID
- Customer Email
- Order Created Date
- Total Price
- Shipping
- Tax
- Discounts (with promo code used)
- Currency
- All Products Included (Product ID, Name, Price, Quantity, and Description)
Here is a sample of how the order data will look once it is passed into ActiveCampaign:
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: When creating a rule, I do not see my tag or list. What do I do?
A: This is due to the dropdown menus only showing some of your tags to help it load faster! If you start typing in the name of the tag/list then it'll appear. If you are still not seeing your tags/lists, you might need to “Refresh” the connection.
