Connect Your AI Assistant to SamCart (MCP)

Connect your SamCart marketplace to Claude, ChatGPT and other AI tools, then ask about your sales, orders and subscriptions, or make changes, without leaving the tools you already work in.

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is a standard that lets AI tools connect to other apps and data. SamCart's official MCP server gives any compatible AI client secure, logged-in access to your marketplace, so you can pull a sales summary, look up an order, cancel a subscription or set up an upsell by asking in plain language.

Once your client is connected, it works with your live SamCart data. No exporting reports, no copying data between tabs and no waiting on a dashboard to load.

The MCP server is available on all SamCart plans, and any user on your marketplace can connect. Your AI client can only do what your SamCart user role allows in the app.

NOTE: The SamCart MCP server is in beta and new tools are added regularly. Looking things up works on every connection. Making changes, like editing products or cancelling subscriptions, needs you to allow changes when you connect. See Allowing your client to make changes below.

What you can do

Your AI client picks the right tool automatically based on what you ask it. For the full list, including the limits worth knowing before you ask your client to change something, see What Your AI Assistant Can Do in SamCart (MCP).

Server details

Most clients only need two pieces of information to connect:

Server URL

https://mcp.samcart.com

Transport

Streamable HTTP

You log in through your browser. When you connect, your client sends you to SamCart to log in and choose which marketplace the client should have access to. Your SamCart password is never stored in the client.

Allowing your client to make changes

When SamCart asks you to approve the connection, the consent screen has a checkbox labelled Also allow this connection to make changes. Check it if you want your client to edit products, coupons, upsells, funnels or subscriptions. Leave it unchecked for a connection that can only look things up.

If you connected before you could make changes, your existing connection is look-up only. Disconnect SamCart in your client, reconnect, and check the box on the consent screen.

Setting up your client

We've tested the SamCart MCP server with the clients below. Any other MCP-compatible tool should connect the same way. Jump to Other MCP clients if yours isn't listed.

Claude Desktop

Open your Claude settings and go to Settings > Customize > Connectors. Click Add and select Custom Connector.

In the Add custom connector window, enter a name for the connector and the SamCart server URL:

  • Name: SamCart
  • URL: https://mcp.samcart.com

Click Continue. SamCart appears in your connectors list with a Connect button next to it.

Click Connect. SamCart opens in your browser so you can log in, select the marketplace you want the client to access and choose whether to allow changes. Once you've approved, you're done.

Claude Web

Open your Claude settings and go to Settings > Connectors. Click Add and select Custom Connector.

In the Add custom connector window, enter a name for the connector and the SamCart server URL:

  • Name: SamCart
  • URL: https://mcp.samcart.com

Click Continue, then click Connect next to the new SamCart entry in your connectors list. SamCart opens in your browser so you can log in and select the marketplace you want the client to access.

Claude Code

Run the following in your terminal:

claude mcp add samcart --transport http https://mcp.samcart.com/ -s user

The -s user flag makes the server available in every project on your machine. Open a Claude Code session and run /mcp to log in.

ChatGPT Desktop App

Go to Settings > Plugins > MCPs and click Add MCP server. Enter the following details:

  • URL: https://mcp.samcart.com
  • Type: Streamable HTTP

Click Add to save the server, then click Authenticate. SamCart opens so you can log in and select the marketplace you want to connect to.

ChatGPT CLI

Run the following in your terminal:

codex mcp add samcart --url https://mcp.samcart.com

You'll be asked to log in to SamCart and select a marketplace.

You can also add the server to your ~/.codex/config.toml file instead:

[mcp_servers.samcart]
url = "https://mcp.samcart.com"

Then run codex mcp login samcart to log in.

Other MCP clients

Any client that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP can connect using the server URL above. Most clients ask for a name, the URL and the transport type, then hand off to your browser so you can log in.

If your client only supports local (stdio) servers, you can bridge to the remote server using mcp-remote:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "samcart": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "mcp-remote", "https://mcp.samcart.com"]
    }
  }
}

Example prompts

Once you're connected, try asking your client:

  • Summarize my sales for the last 30 days and compare them to the previous 30 days.
  • Which products drove the most revenue last month, and how much of it was recurring?
  • List every subscription with a scheduled cancellation in the next 30 days.
  • Which subscription renewals failed this week, and why?
  • What's the take rate on my order bumps, and which one is underperforming?
  • Find all orders for the customer with this email address and tell me what they've bought.
  • How much did I refund last quarter, and which products did the refunds come from?

If you've allowed changes, you can also ask things like:

  • Cancel the subscription for this email address at the end of their billing period.
  • Move this customer's next billing date to the 15th of next month.
  • Create a 20% off coupon called SPRING20 for my course products.
  • Show my coaching program as an upsell after my starter course.

Troubleshooting

The client connected but no tools are available

Check that you finished logging in and selected a marketplace. Disconnecting and reconnecting the server from your client's MCP settings fixes most connection issues.

Your client can look things up but won't change anything

Your connection doesn't have permission to make changes. Disconnect SamCart in your client, reconnect, and check Also allow this connection to make changes on the consent screen. If it still can't, check that your SamCart user role allows that change in the app, since the client can't do more than your role allows.

Your client says coupons aren't available

Creating coupons depends on your plan. If your plan doesn't include coupons, the coupon tool returns an error.

You need to switch marketplaces

Disconnect the server in your client, then reconnect and choose a different marketplace when you log in.

Your client can't add the server

Confirm that it supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP. If it only supports local stdio servers, use the mcp-remote bridge described in Other MCP clients.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can my AI client change anything in my marketplace?
A: Only if you allow it. Check Also allow this connection to make changes on the consent screen and your client can edit products, coupons, upsells, funnels and subscriptions, within what your user role allows. Without it, the connection can only look things up. It can't issue refunds or edit orders or customers either way. See What Your AI Assistant Can Do in SamCart (MCP) for the full list.

Q: Which SamCart plans include MCP server access?
A: All of them. If your plan includes API access, you have access to the MCP server as well. Some tools follow your plan, for example coupons only work if your plan includes them.

Q: Are my SamCart login details stored in the AI client?
A: No. You log in through SamCart in your browser, and your password is never passed to or stored in the client.

Q: Can I connect more than one marketplace?
A: Each connection is tied to the single marketplace you select when you log in. To point your client at a different marketplace, disconnect the server in your client, then reconnect and choose the marketplace you want.

Q: My client isn't in the list above. Will it still work?
A: Most likely, yes. Any client that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP can connect using the server URL. If your client only supports local stdio servers, use the mcp-remote bridge in Other MCP clients. If you run into trouble with a client that isn't listed, let our support team know so we can add it to this article.

Q: Does connecting an AI client slow down or affect my checkout pages?
A: Connecting a client and looking things up has no effect on your checkout pages or how orders are processed. Changes you ask for do: a new upsell or funnel shows on your live checkouts straight away, and changing a product's URL slug breaks links to its old sales page and checkout.
