See everything Claude, ChatGPT or another AI client can look up and change in your marketplace through the SamCart MCP server, and the limits worth knowing before you ask it to change something.
This article covers what's available once you're connected. To connect a client, see Connect Your AI Assistant to SamCart (MCP).
You don't need to name a tool or know any IDs. Ask in plain language, and your client finds the right records and works out the rest.
NOTE: The SamCart MCP server is in beta and new tools are added regularly. Changes only work if you checked Also allow this connection to make changes when you connected, and only within what your SamCart user role allows.
Before you ask your client to change something
Changes made through the MCP server are real changes to your live marketplace, the same as making them in your dashboard. A few are worth knowing about up front:
- Restarting a Stripe subscription charges your customer straight away and starts a new billing period from today.
- Cancelling a subscription triggers your integrations, like removing course access or firing Zapier, unless you ask for a silent cancel.
- A new upsell or funnel shows on your live checkouts straight away.
- Most coupon settings can't be changed after the coupon is created, including the discount, dates and usage rules.
- Changing a product's URL slug breaks links to its old sales page and checkout.
- If a request to create something times out, ask your client to check whether it was created before trying again. Creating products, coupons, upsells and funnels isn't protected against duplicates.
If you're not sure what your client is about to do, ask it to describe the change before it goes ahead.
Products
Look up: your products, filtered by archived status, pricing type (one-time, subscription or pay what you want), physical or digital, SKU or creation date.
Change:
- Create a product. Your client needs a name, whether it's physical or digital, and a price. It can also set up subscription terms, a trial, pay what you want and tax collection. New products start live if you have a payment processor connected, and in test mode if you don't.
- Edit a product. Name, price, description, internal name, SKU, URL slug, SEO title and description, test mode and archive status. Only what you ask to change is changed.
Subscription terms (frequency, type and trial) are set when the product is created and can't be changed afterwards, and the price of a subscription product can't be changed either. Archiving a product works the same way it does in the dashboard.
Subscriptions
Look up: subscriptions by customer, product, order or status (active, canceled, delinquent, completed or paused), including renewal dates and any scheduled cancellation.
Change:
- Cancel now. Works on active, delinquent and paused subscriptions, and replaces any cancellation already scheduled. Your integrations are triggered unless you ask for a silent cancel.
- Cancel later. At the end of the current billing period, or on a date you choose. The subscription stays active and keeps billing until then. If a cancellation is already scheduled, it's kept as it is, so ask your client to remove it first if you want a different date.
- Undo a scheduled cancellation so the subscription keeps billing past the planned date.
- Restart a delinquent or canceled subscription. This resets failed payment attempts and your dunning sequence. Stripe-billed subscriptions are charged straight away and start a new billing period from today. SamCart-billed subscriptions are charged now if a payment is overdue, and otherwise carry on from their existing billing date.
- Move the next billing date. The new date must be in the future, and it only works on active or delinquent subscriptions.
- Apply a coupon to an active or delinquent subscription, for example a discount to keep a customer who wants to cancel. Only recurring coupons work, and the coupon's currency must match the subscription's. A subscription can only have one coupon, so this replaces any coupon it already has.
NOTE: Pausing a subscription: SamCart doesn't have a pause. To pause one, ask your client for a silent cancel, then restart the subscription when the customer is ready. If it's billed through Stripe, the restart charges them straight away.
Orders, customers, payments and refunds
These are look-up only. Orders and customers are created when a buyer checks out, and payments are created by checkouts and renewals.
- Orders: filter by customer, email, status, product, coupon, funnel, upsell or date.
- Customers: search by email or phone, including addresses and saved payment methods.
- Payments: captured payments, including renewals, filtered by order, customer, subscription, type, status or test mode.
- Failed payments: failed attempts, including failed renewals, with the reason your payment processor gave. Filter by order, customer, subscription or payment method, like card, PayPal or Klarna.
- Refunds: refunds with their order, payment and customer.
Coupons
Look up: coupons by code, product or archived status, with usage and discount details. A coupon that works on several products shows once per product, all with the same code.
Change:
- Create a coupon. Your client needs a code, a flat amount or percentage, and the discount. You can also choose whether it applies to the first payment only or every payment, how often it can be used, start and end dates, a maximum number of uses for recurring coupons, and which products accept it. Leave the products out and it works on all of them.
- Change which products accept a coupon. This is the only thing you can change after a coupon is created.
Coupons depend on your plan. If your plan doesn't include coupons, your client gets an error. The once-only and once-per-email usage limits also depend on your plan.
Upsells and funnels
Look up: your upsells and funnels, the product each upsell offers, the steps in each funnel and the products they show after.
Change:
- Create an upsell that offers one product, and choose which products it shows after. You can also allow buyers to choose a quantity, offer payment options, use the upgrade flow and set the confirmation text.
- Change which products an upsell shows after.
- Create a funnel of up to five upsell steps, each with an optional downsell offered if the buyer says no. Your client creates the upsells first, then builds the funnel from them. You can allow split testing to run more than one funnel on the same product.
- Edit a funnel's steps and the products it shows after.
A product can show one upsell or one funnel, not both. To swap the offer on a product, your client removes the product from the old one first. Funnels that use conditional logic can only be edited in your dashboard, and a single-upsell offer is edited as an upsell rather than a funnel.
Sales and performance
These are look-up only, for any date range.
- Sales: gross sales, net revenue, orders, refunds, one-time and recurring revenue, upsell and order bump revenue, visitors, conversion rate and average order value, day by day.
- Upsells: views, purchases, declines, abandons, revenue and take rate for each upsell.
- Funnels: views, purchases, declines, abandons, revenue and conversion rate for each funnel.
- Order bumps: purchases of the main product, bump takes, revenue and take rate.
Performance reports show your top 25 by revenue unless you ask for more, up to 100.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Will my client make a change without asking me?
A: It can only make changes if you allowed it when you connected. You can ask it to describe a change before it goes ahead. To keep a connection look-up only, reconnect and leave Also allow this connection to make changes unchecked.
Q: Can my client refund a customer?
A: No. Refunds still need your SamCart dashboard. Your client can look up refunds you've already issued.
Q: I cancelled a subscription and my customer lost access to their course. Why?
A: Cancelling triggers your integrations, the same as cancelling in your dashboard. To cancel without triggering them, ask your client for a silent cancel.
Q: Can a team member connect their own client?
A: Yes. Any user on your marketplace can connect, and their client can only do what their SamCart user role allows.
Q: I made a coupon with the wrong discount. Can my client fix it?
A: Not the discount. After a coupon is created, the only thing you can change is which products accept it. Archive the old coupon in your dashboard and ask your client to create a new one.
Q: My client created the same product twice. What happened?
A: This can happen if a request times out and is sent again. Archive the extra copy, and if a create request times out in future, ask your client to check before it tries again.
