Get order bump ideas from what your buyers already buy, then turn one into a ready-to-edit draft in one click.
Order Bump Suggestions look at your own sales to find products your customers already buy together. When enough buyers of one product go on to buy another of your products in a later order, SamCart suggests offering that second product as an order bump at checkout, so buyers can add it in the same purchase.
Each suggestion shows you the evidence, for example "184 of your buyers of Product A bought Product B in a later order." Click Apply and SamCart creates a draft order bump with a headline and pitch already written. You review it and publish it yourself. Nothing is added to your checkout until you click Publish.
How suggestions are chosen
Suggestions come from your orders, not from your product list. SamCart doesn't guess which products might go well together. It looks for pairs your buyers have already bought.
For a product to be suggested as a bump:
- At least 25 buyers bought this product, then bought the suggested product as the main product in a later, separate order, within the last 12 months.
- Both products are active. An archived product doesn't get suggestions, and is never suggested as a bump.
- The suggested product isn't already an order bump on this product. A product you use as a bump or upsell on a different product can still be suggested here.
Only separate orders count. If a buyer gets both products in the same order, whether as two items or as a bump or upsell, that purchase isn't counted toward the 25.
Suggestions are recalculated every night, so new ones can appear as your sales grow. Changes you make, like archiving a product or adding a bump, show up in your suggestions the next day. Each account gets suggestions on up to 3 products at a time, chosen by how many buyers bought the pair and the price of the suggested product.
If you only sell one product, or don't have enough repeat buyers yet, there's nothing to compare, so no suggestions appear. Your order bumps section works as normal.
Where to find your suggestions
Suggestions appear on the product they're for. Go to Products, open the product, then go to Settings > Offers. Suggestions appear as cards at the top of the Order Bumps section, above Add Order Bump.
Each card shows:
- Top suggestion or Suggestion: the first card is the strongest pairing for this product.
- The suggested product's image, name and price. Click the name to open that product in a new tab.
- The number of buyers who bought both, and the sentence explaining it.
- The date range of orders the suggestion is based on.
Step 1 - Apply a suggestion
Click Apply on the card you want. SamCart creates a new order bump for the suggested product, named "[Product] order bump", and the button changes to Edit. This takes a few seconds while the copy is written.
The headline and a short 2 to 3 sentence pitch are written by AI from the suggested product's description. If that product doesn't have a description, SamCart asks you Who is this product for, and why would they want it? first. Type a few sentences (up to 500 characters) and click Create draft. Click Cancel to back out without creating anything.
The AI only writes the copy. The product being suggested always comes from your own sales.
Step 2 - Review the draft
Your new bump appears in the product's order bumps list with a Draft label. Draft bumps aren't shown at checkout.
Click Edit to change the headline, description, image, price or anything else, the same way as any other order bump. See Global Order Bumps for every setting. Your edits are kept: SamCart won't rewrite the copy once the draft exists.
Step 3 - Publish
When you're happy with it, click Publish on the draft card. The bump is attached to the product and its label changes to Published. From this point it shows on that product's checkout.
Changed your mind before publishing? Click Delete on the draft card. Because the draft was never published, nothing changes at checkout, and that suggestion won't be shown again.
Dismissing or turning off suggestions
- Dismiss one suggestion: click the X in the top corner of the card. That pairing is hidden for you and won't come back. A different suggestion may appear after the next nightly update.
- Turn off all suggestions: click Turn off suggestions below the cards and confirm. This turns suggestions off for your whole account, on every product. Any drafts you've already created stay in your order bumps list.
Why don't I see suggestions?
A product shows no suggestion cards if:
- No pair of your products reaches 25 buyers in the last 12 months.
- Your buyers mostly buy once, or buy products together in the same order, so there aren't enough later, separate purchases to compare.
- The product is archived.
- The product it would suggest is already an order bump on this product.
- You dismissed the suggestion, or turned off suggestions for your account.
- It isn't one of the 3 products in your account with the strongest pairings.
Suggestions are worked out overnight. If you've only just reached 25 buyers, or changed a product, check back the next day.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Will SamCart add a bump to my checkout without asking me?
A: No. Apply only creates a draft. A bump goes live only when you click Publish.
Q: I have order bumps already. Will I still get suggestions?
A: Yes. Suggestions appear whether or not a product already has bumps. A product that's already a bump on this product isn't suggested for it again, but a product you use as a bump or upsell elsewhere can be.
Q: Why isn't the suggestion with the most buyers marked as the top suggestion?
A: Suggestions are ranked by the number of buyers and the price of the suggested product together, so a higher-priced product with fewer buyers can rank first.
Q: The Apply button is greyed out. Why?
A: Your team member role doesn't have permission to edit order bumps. You can still see the suggestions. Ask your account owner or an admin to apply it, or to update your permissions.
